Litter dad Ivo
Ivo is Hobbit’s German boyfriend, Ivo of Seven Oaks to be precise. The kennel has amongst their dogs had the best mastiff ever in Germany, Macbeth of Seven Oaks (but Ivo is from a litter with a mother bought from another kennel, with great European and American lines). You can find the kennel’s homepage here. He was born the 24th of May 2006 and has an HD A on the German scale, which is free of HD. You can see his pedigree here. I met his father Wileyways The Thunder Rolls with Birte and Olaf on the kennel Hugedogge in Denmark when I was on my way back up from Germany. He’s a great looking, powerful dog with a lot of bone. Even though Ivo’s still young you can see that he will be that as well. And he has excellent movements.
I have “stolen” a translation of parts of his German breeding license from Of Seven Oaks’ homepage, and it says “rips arched and well round, chest wide,deep…excellent powerful movement, outstanding character”. He has been shown, but mostly together with his kennel colleague Hulk Hogan of Seven Oaks (Hobbit’s nephew, since he’s the son of her brother Chunky, who also lives at the Of Seven Oaks kennel). The 6th and 7th of October 2007 Hulk became best young dog and best of breed in Rostock, with Ivo as reserve best of breed.
I saw them together in Germany and Ivo had even better movement than Hogan, but is a bit slower in his development, so he needs another year or two to be fully matured. And that’s not a bad thing, slower developing mastiffs can often live longer. And a long life isn’t uncommon in Hobbit’s and Ivo’s lines.
These are the main reasons that I selected Ivo after being able to choose between them, in addition to Hulk being so closely related to Hobbit (but still it would be only considered line breeding, not inbreeding, so that wasn’t a very important point).
